Introduction to editing

Horror movie
What is editing?
Editing is the process of selecting from different shots and joining them together to tell a story.

What is elliptical editing?
Allows to fill in the gaps. The shot shows us the character waking up without showing us her sleeping, this takes up less actual time on screen.

Why are long shots used?
The use of long shot is used to remind us where she is and that she is alone.

What is non-diegetic sound?
Music being played which can be heard by the viewer and not the character.

How do we know she is bending down to pick up the ring? (What shots are being used and why?)
Close up shots has been used to show us what she is looking at and her reaction on her face followed by the reverse shot of her looking down makes us follow the direction of her picking up the ring. Its a simple way of going to the point of the girl picking up the ring.

Hustle
Overhead establishing shot - What does this achieve?
The director sets out the space where the action will take place and the characters positions within the room.

What is shot reverse shot?
By cutting back and fourth between the two men we assume that they are looking at and talking to each other.

What is eye line matching?
The character standing up looks offscreen and down whereas the character sitting down looks offscreen and up making it out that the two men are looking at each other.

Why do we cut to the other members of the group?
So the viewers are able to see what the characters faces and reaction will be to the plan and to each other.

What is a wipe?
Moving the action to a different location.

What is the effect of using quick-cuts?
Makes the story more slicker as it is made up from 26 different shots.

Identify, List and Explain #4

I decided to choose this advert because it seemed pretty simple to explain also the fact that the talent these two kids have with their eyebrows amazes me. This advert in particular is aimed at all chocolate lovers who love a bit of laughter in their life. Demographics show that this was very popular in the 13-17 female. We could say the advert was aimed at mostly teenagers as they love to purchase a chocolate bar for a snack either at lunchtime or after school by watching this advert this could preferably persuade them more to purchase the product which is being advertised in the video. It can be easily said that cadbury do have their own disposable income as they are one of the leading chocolate manufacturers in the world. In my opinion the advert is very effective as it delivers a clear picture to people who purchase the chocolate they will be happy as it contains milk clearly shown in the video ‘a glass and a half full of joy’ explains the amount of milk the bar contains. The whole eyebrow dance makes the advert effective.

Identify, List and Explain #3

Reason behind for choosing this advert is because I found it very unique and mind blowing gave us target audience something entertaining to watch. This advert is aimed at T-mobile customers age can vary from 13 right the way up to 60’s. Both male and female would find this appealing as the whole of Liverpool street station starts dancing randomly catching many of the audience’s attention. T-Mobile can be seen as the one of the successful growing networks in the market with an operating income of £1.416 billion it can easily be said that they do have their own disposable income and they use this opportunity to increase their business. In my opinion I find the advert very effective because as someone views this questions will instantly be raised as to why are people randomly dancing? When they find out the reason behind it they will realize it was a very good way to catch an audience’s eye.

Identify, List and Explain #2

The reason for my choice is because I found this advert quite imaginative and creative to start with and also very entertaining. Target audience for this particular advert you could say is to anyone who enjoys their fast food but mainly this could also be pointed out to teenager. Nowadays you see mostly teens entering the food outlets usually at lunch hour because of their school lunch break. When a school kid watches the video and sees that there is a new deal going on at MacDonald’s they would instantly go and purchase that deal as they see it making the advert effective. This particular advert is highly popular in the female teenager category mostly 13-17 year old females have clearly enjoyed this advert. As MacDonald’s being a worldwide world and revenue totaling to a very huge $27.006 billion as of 2011 it’s clear enough that they do have their own disposable income. Using this money they can expand and build on more MacDonald’s stores throughout the country. Advert can be viewed by clicking on the link below.

Identify, List and Explain

I chose this advert because I found it not only interesting but hilarious to watch. This advert really caught my attention as it looked interesting and entertaining to watch due to the fact that babies where dancing on roller skates which wouldn't be seen as a often thing for some, which clearly puts this video in the unique section. I wouldn't really say the advert is specifically targeted at a certain audience it’s really targeted at people who love their water whatever the age range or gender be it from teens right the way up to the elderly. A target audience, or target group is the primary group of people that something, usually an advertising campaign, is aimed at appealing to. The top demographics for this ad are males 35-44 years, this became quite a hit for the adult group. In my opinion I find the advert very effective the reason being is because the use of babies and the fact that they are so chubby and cute instantly grabs the audience’s attention and persuades them enough to click on the advert and view it (if being viewed on YouTube). The unique idea of having babies on a roller skate really gives the audience something to laugh about making this an effective video to watch.

Evaluation

I could say my video is one of a kind. Specific aspects that I’m proud of are the effects that I inputted to make the video look as if it was entertaining and interesting to watch. Reason for inserting all this into my video was so I could see and what the audience thought of it gaining feedback from them will really help me to improve the video for future use. Feedback consisted of the good use of the college’s reconstruction video, which gave a detailed 3D blueprint of the inside of the college. Some aspects that particular needs to be improved on are the use of transition cuts, frequent use of the cuts makes the video look too simple. Really I as a learner should have varied myself in using different effects to make the video more interesting to watch, by inputting different ways of using these effects and visualising how to get peoples attention.  Also with team members being missing on certain days made me postpone videoing as I didn’t get much done.

Next time that I would do differently is review other video profiles and evaluate what they have done to make their video as interesting as possible and eye catching to the audience. By looking over several times and analysing every small bit I would be able to make my video profile 10x better putting me one step ahead. I plan to include more shots and vary myself with the use of shots giving the audience more to watch, as I wouldn’t want to bore them. Change of setting meaning filming outside and different locations to make look as if my life isn’t just based around college. To make my video look more professional I would not only use state of the art equipment but the ways and methods that I would use to make it look professional. By researching ways on the Internet this could possibly assist me into making my video as professional as possible. Use of equipment could include high tech video cameras and microphones, which would catch every little sound possible making it crystal clear to hear. My video compared to a commercially produce video I would probably say is far off. These were made to be on TV so video and sound quality has to be at its highest quality as a huge audience is bound to watch it.
